Shahrukh Khan and Kajol’s romantic blockbuster Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge has found a fan in Hollywood heartthrob Robert Pattinson. If this makes you nostalgic, you can relive those DDLJ moments on YouTube Boxoffice too! “Well, I have five movies in my top list which I really admire and love watching. Notting Hill, 50 First Dates, Sweet November and Ghost,” said Pattinson. “And I also really liked the Bollywood movie Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge. I love the sweet romance portrayed in the movie,” he added. Meanwhile, the actor is gearing up for the release of last movie of Twilight franchise, The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn. The film, starring Paatinso, Kristen Stewart and Taylor Lautner, will release in two parts and the first part is set to hit the screens November 18.

Sonam Kapoor raises a middle finger in ‘Players’!

The Mausam actor has so far stuck to roles that are soft-spoken, demure and generally very ladylike but in Players she has apparently shed the good girl tag

There is definitely some karmic connection between Sonam Kapoor and Ranbir Kapoor; they are both from B-town’s respected filmi families, they made their acting debuts together, they share a bitter-sweet relationship which they are vocal about and they have both raised their middle fingers in their forthcoming films, Players and Rockstar respectively. But this one is about Sonam and how she has given up on the coy, girl-next-door avatar of Mausam for a rebellious and edgy persona in Abbas-Mustan’s thriller. If the trailer is anything to go by, her Players co-star, Bipasha Basu will be mostly seen adding the sizzle quotient in her red bikini whereas Sonam would be seen doing some edgy stunts. One stunt that particularly caught our attention was where the Aisha girl raises a middle finger to all those who think that ladies were bad at the wheels. Sonam not only maneuvers a speeding car but also deftly parks it in a cramped space, something which probably only Superstar Rajinikanth could have done. While the scene is well shot and all that, helping her steal the limelight from Bips, we aren’t totally sure if papa Kapoor would be happy to see his pretty li’l princess raising a middle finger, that too on the big screen.

Is the catfight between Chitrangda and Deepika Padukone a marketing gimmick?

The rift between Desi Boyz actors Chitrangda and Deepika Padukone heats up as the release date nears. We would like to believe that this fight is just a well choreographed move to promote the film!

Now this formula has worked every time two hotties have appeared in the same film. Resorting to a catfight is a perfect ploy to grab the attention of the audience. Right before the Desi Boyz promos hit the screen the news of the rumoured cold war between Deepika and Chitrangda had reared its ugly head and now as the film is about to release, this tension is being hyped. The two leading ladies, we are told, did not get along well on the sets of the film and their co-stars Akshay Kumar and John Abraham tried to diffuse the growing tension between the two starlets. But this scuffle looks like a very juvenile attempt to bring the film in the spotlight. These publicity gimmicks are surely not going to work when a solid film like Rockstar is also releasing in the same month. The audience has seen the John and Akshay jodi in Garam Masala before and without any novelty there is nothing to write home about. Being Rohit Dhawan’s debut directorial, let’s just hope if not the star cast, at least the story has something new.

Vidya Balan impressed with Tusshar Kapoor’s kiss?

When you have a film based on a soft porn star’s life, and the title is The Dirty Picture, intimate scenes are a given. But when it’s ‘good boy’ Tusshar Kapoor who is doing them, it’s a surprise. It was to Tusshar too. The actor revealed that he didn’t know there was going to be a kissing scene when he signed the film, and director Milan Luthria informed him about it only on the day he was supposed to do it. So did he take tips from co-star Emraan Hashmi? “No, I didn’t need to. I just did it my own style. Intimate scenes are just part of the job. There is an awkwardness because all these junior artistes are watching. You want to get it right the first time or they’ll say, “Arrey, theek se kiya bhi nahin (Hey, he can’t even get this right)”. And if you give too many takes, you’ll lose spontaneity and it becomes mechanical. Your co-star should also be impressed and think, hey he must be really good with this in real life too.” Wowzee. So was Vidya impressed with his kissing skills? Or was she enamoured with serial kisser Emraan? “You should ask Vidya who is the better kisser,” said Tusshar. Oh we will, Tusshar. We definitely will!

Aamir Khan, Hrithik Roshan go to Florence

Dhobi Ghat and Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara will be screened at the River To River film fest in December. Cineswami takes a look at other Indian and Pakistani films at the fest

Well, technically not them, but their films. Zoya Akhtar’s Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara, starring Hrithik Roshan, has been selected to screen at the annual River To River film festival in Florence, Italy that unspools December 2-8. Kiran Rao’s acclaimed Dhobi Ghat, starring hubby Aamir Khan will close the festival. The fest will open with Anindo Bandopadhyay’s Bengali film Chaplin, about how a Charlie Chaplin impersonator ekes out a living. Actor Rudranil Ghosh will participate in a Q&A after the screening. He isn’t exactly Aamir or Hrithik, but the good folk of Florence have no other choice, short of flying to Mumbai and hanging out outside the stars’ houses hoping for a dekko.
This being Nobel laureate Rabindranath Tagore’s 150th anniversary, the festival is celebrating him with several films. First up is Satyajit Ray’s masterful documentary on Tagore, rather surprisingly titled – Rabindranath Tagore. Ray’s exceptional The Home And The World (Ghare Baire) also screens, as does Tapan Sinha’s Hungry Stones (Khudito Pashan) that’s based on a Tagore story. Ray’s Tagore adaptation Three Daughters (Teen Kanya) also finds a place in the programme.
Shoaib Mansoor’s polemical Pakistani film Bol that had a failed India release a few months ago will find a new audience in Florence. Italian Pakistanis will wet themselves with the news that actress Zaib Rehman will be present for a Q&A. No, she’s not one of the hotties – she plays the mother in the film. At least it’ll be a welcome distraction from seeing half their cricket team, including their captain, thrown into a British jail for match fixing. Those preferring to catch 40 winks instead can watch student films made by FTII and Whistling Woods inmates. But those determined to remain in a Pakistani frame of mind can catch Dreaming Taj Mahal, a film about a Pakistani taxi driver who dreams of visiting India to see the Taj Mahal, but can’t get a visa for love or money. Just Google it bhai.
Shyamaprasad’s Malayalam film Elektra, an adaptation of the Greek myth is of interest because of two hotties – Southern bombshell Nayantara and the newly svelte Manisha Koirala. Singham villain Prakash Raj is also in there somewhere, hamming it up, as is his wont. Kavalmaniyam Jagannathan’s brilliant Tamil and Hindi Videokaaran, about the complex cinema-fan relationship in India is easily the pick of the fest. Jonas Pariente and Mathias Mangim’s Next Year in Bombay looks at the Jewish community in the city. And Rohan Fernando’s English and Tamil Snow tells the story of tsunami survivors.
No fest is complete without Q’s Asshole (Gandu) and Florence duly obliges. If a documentary about arranged marriage is what gives you your kicks, then Daniela Dar-Creutz’s Arranged Happiness is just the ticket for you.
Now all you need is a ticket to Florence. Enjoy.

As the National film award winner turns 40 today, we take you through the actor’s repertoire of memorable performances over the years

Every time she appeared on screen, she convinced us that no one could do the character better than her. Be it a struggling mother who tried hard to deter her kids from entering the hellhole of trafficking in Chandni Bar or stepping into the shoes of a village belle in Virasat, Tabu did it all with absolute ease. She did slip into the world of mindless movies every now and then, but then we forgive her disasters just because of the simple fact that she never looked like the sorts who would rest on her laurels. We witnessed the same amount of passion in every movie she did. Endowing us with some thought provoking performances in movies like Astitva,Cheeni Kum, The Namesake, etc; Tabu aka Tabassum Hashmi struck a chord only because she has always represented reality in her own unique style. Her last film on screen was Toh Baat Pakki which was a major disaster. The actor is apparently busy shooting Life of Pi opposite Irrfan Khan at present. While the actor claims to be busy, we are definitely missing her undiluted magic on the big screen…

BIGG BOSS 5: Siddharth, Vida are friends again!

The day starts with Amar Upadhyay urging Sky and Siddharth Bhardwaj to eat some food. He is willing to talk to Vida Samadzai and convince her to join them. Sky is adamant that Vida should tell Siddharth that she won’t eat till he eats. Siddharth is adamant to prove that his mannerisms are not childish. He continues to talk to Vida over their dinner argument over dal. While they manage to end their fight over dal, Siddharth still gives Vida grief over being in India and liking Indians. Vida in turn retorts how much she loves India and how she avoided Hollywood just to be in India.

In the meantime, Juhi Parmar loses her cool as she has an argument with Pooja Missra over a minor dishwashing issue. She bitches about Pooja to other housemates and tells them, how she has always stood by Pooja Missra, but now Pooja Misrra refuses to listen to anything that Juhi has to say. Captain nominations take place in the house. During the nominations, we see Juhi making a last-minute decision to not for Pooja Misrra.
Sky claims that people in the house have a problem with him as he is honest. Sky confesses to Bigg Boss that he does not want to be a part of the Bigg Boss house anymore. He says he wants to leave the house since he thinks Mahek Chahal’s issue was not dealt with fairly and he wants justice.
