Siddharth Mallya seems to have not yet got over the shock of the fall of his father’s aviation business. That’s the only way we can rationalise the otherwise quiet guy making a war-provoking statement at a recent awards ceremony. We won’t be surprised if Sonam Kapoor and Deepika Padukone, two of Bollywood’s top heroines who have always been cordial to each other, suddenly break into a catfight, thanks to Sid. Deepika’s ‘very good friend’ Siddharth was asked at the event who he thought was the most stylish female actor. You would expect him to choose Deepika, but surprise, surprise, he picked Sonam! “Most stylish actress! I think Sonam dresses pretty well – they all doll up pretty well. But Sonam looks pretty good,” he said. And we held our collective breath. Wethought that maybe he would choose the lady who is so often at his side at assorted dos, but no! When asked about her style, the Kingfisher scion nonchalantly said, “She has not got a bad sense of style either.” Uh oh. Something’s definitely wrong in paradise, don’t you think? Or is this the route that the closely connected duo has chosen to put off the paparazzi trail and get a break from the ‘loving-couple’ stories? And then we had another thought: We wonder who Deepika will name if she had to choose the most stylish young industrialist!

DON 2 movie review: No logic, but Shahrukh Khan makes magic

But for King Khan, Farhan Akhtar’s sequel to his Don is a total waste of time. It has stunning visuals, slick action but little else

Don 2 is a treat for Shahrukh Khan fans – he carries this larger-than-life role with élan like only he can, but the story is a let-down. It starts off well and, if you liked the previous Don, your expectations rise every minute. But an hour into the film you start shifting in your seat, hoping that some magic spell will save it for you. Alas, nothing like that happens and by the time the film ends, you really don’t care about anyone or anything going on onscreen, despite the twist thrown in towards the end.
Don 2 is in the same league as the Abhishek Bachchan-starrer Game, which was co-produced by Farhan Akhtar – a visual treat, yes, but that’s it. The story in brief is that Don is annoying the bosses of an European drug cartel because he is jeopardising their business by selling drugs at a much lower price. The bosses send word out that Don must die, but they can’t get him. For some unfathomable reason Don decides to surrender to the Malaysian police, a force manned mostly by Indians like Malik, Roma and her ridiculous assistant, a young man who keeps making passes at her and gets just a peck on the cheek for his pains. You later find out that Don is in jail to help Vardhaan get out so that they can con the world happily ever after. But there is a twist in the tale. No…make that many twists in the tale. Problem: they are all lame.
What was supposed to be a heist film turns out to be a semi-romantic/semi-action film. The antagonist is confused and so is everyone else. As is the back-story of Priyanka Chopra’s character, Roma; how did she become a top cop and why does she still love Don, despite knowing that he killed her brother in cold blood. Boman Irani as Vardhaan is probably the most believable character in Don 2, the only person who knows what he wants. The rest are all confused. Don says he is tired of being the bad guy; Roma talks kinky with Don; inspector Malik (Om Puri) has decided to retire but, suddenly is back on the job; Kunal Kapoor as Sameer wants to help Don, but then he doesn’t, then he does…!
It is hard to imagine that Farhan Akhtar, along with his co-writers Ameet Mehta and Amrish Shah, and the creative supervision of Javed Akhtar, came up with this no-brainer. The moment you take Shahrukh Khan out of the film, the Sachiin Joshi-starrer Aazaan looks like a classic. The music is another letdown and it seems that music directors Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy are in a slump. The two departments that come up aces are action and photography, both truly world class. That apart, Don 2 is quite yawn inducing, especially towards the end. Watch it ONLY if you are a hardcore Shahrukh Khan fan. As for the 3D hype – if SRK is not your favourite hero, all you get is a bad headache.

Is Ajay Devgn fine with SRK and Rohit Shetty working together?

Shetty dismisses rumours that his pet actor Ajay Devgn was green with envy when he zeroed in on King Khan for his next movie, Chennai Express. Shetty defends Ajay by saying that the actor is way too passionate about work to get involved in such trivial issues. So what if the duo tasted success in their films together and were touted as a hit pair in the industry, they have all the liberty to go their own ways. The mere evidence being Shetty’s decision to move on in his career by working with King Khan – Ajay’s arch-rival at one point of time. And who wouldn’t, especially if a coveted superstar agrees to work with you. Shetty is dealing with this issue quite tactfully by singing their praises and making sure he doesn’t take sides. He emphasises that apart from a personal trainer, the two share a lot of things in common, such as they are both workaholics and they are hell-bent on bringing about a change in the industry. Well, however hard Shetty tries to put light on the fact that the two are great actors in their own right, but c’mon we know who’s the star and more importantly who’s the superstar!

BIGG BOSS 5: Mahek Chahal reenters the house

It’s final. Mahek Chahal will reenter Bigg Boss 5 on a wild card. The starlet had been evicted on December 10, much to the surprise of viewers and her fellow housemate Siddharth Bhardwaj. It had been rumoured that Mahek was selected as one of the contestants on the behest of the show’s host Salman Khan and it was thanks to his support that she managed to stay in the house for as long as she did. However, after she got evicted, Mahek claimed to all and sundry that there was no favouritism going on. “It is not right to say that Salman has been favouring me. I share a very nice relationship with him but that doesn’t mean he is biased towards me,” she had claimed. With her reentry into the house, the buzz has started doing the rounds again. Maybe Salman did suggest she be chosen over the other possible – Lakshmi Tripathi and Shonali Nagrani – or maybe he did not. What we do know is that our readers are going to be very happy with Mahek’s return. We’ve received a whole lot of comments about how they wish Mahek was brought back. They called her gutsy, bold and beautiful, and said that she is the only one who showcased her true self on the show. They sent prayers in the hope that she will win and even went to the extent of saying that if Mahek did not reenter as wild card, they will never watch Bigg Boss again. The theme was the same – Mahek, and not Juhi Parmar, deserves to win. Is Bigg Boss listening?

Sonam Kapoor: I like pretty clothes, so what?

Fashionista. Style icon. Style diva. Sonam Kapoor’s innovative looks have landed her many such titles and she’s lived up to all of them. So naturally you’ll expect that she loves clothes. She admitted that much to us recently. However, she also said something else that we would like to see all her young female fans take seriously. Sonam made it very clear to us that she buys her clothes with her own money, and not with her father’s. While that might or might not be true, here’s what impressed us – “Others invest in real estate, I buy pretty clothes. So what? I like looking pretty for myself, not for some boy.” Isn’t that great? The formerly overweight actor also said that it will be a while before she dons a bikini, like her Players co-star Bipasha Basu. “I don’t have the body for a bikini. I have cellulite on my legs and cottage cheese thighs!” she laughs. “I worked hard to come down from 90kgs. I want to eat chocolate and rice occasionally, which I can’t if I have to wear a bikini. I don’t have any inhibitions. When I am comfortable, I will do it, but I will have to take three or four months off from work and really work on my body.” Then she said something that threw us off, coming from a Bollywood actor known for her glamorous, stylish outfits. “You don’t need to wear a bikini to look hot. You can look hot and amazing wearing normal clothes. It’s a matter of perception and attitude.” That’s something we would love to see other female actors emulate. Won’t you?

BIGG BOSS 5: Sunny and Juhi mock Amar and Sky

Juhi Parmar, Sunny Leone and Sky begin the day with a group hug. After breakfast, Sky and Juhi relax in the garden and chat about Amar and his wannabe nature. Amar joins them, and Sky immediately turns the conversation and says they were praising him. Soon, Sunny and Siddharth Bhardwaj join them. Amar and Sky renew their argument from the previous night, and after a while, Sunny and Juhi leave them. They go to the washroom and laugh out loud at Sky fighting for no reason at all. Sky joins them there and starts laughing too. Juhi points out that for once, Sid has been left out of the argument. Meanwhile, in the garden, Amar and Sid start discussing how Sky’s jokes are completely nonsensical and it’s time he left the house.

Later in the day, the housemates start doing their daily task. Juhi and Sunny put up a mock fight about Amar and Sky over something they claim Amar had said. Juhi announces that Amar had called her a weakling a few days back. Sid asks Amar if he has ever called any woman on the show a weakling, and Amar firmly says he has never done so. He adds he will sort out the issue with Juhi.
Later in the day, Sunny, Sky and Juhi get together and Sunny complains about Amar being too touchy-feely during the task. Sky agrees that it was totally unnecessary for Amar to do so. Near the end of the day, Juhi and Sunny mock the fight Sky and Amar had in the morning and reenact it much to the amusement of all the contestants. Everyone has a hearty laugh.
