Priyanka Chopra is a happy heroine!

After doing intense roles in her past few films, PC will play an actor with a positive outlook in Kunal Kohli’s Teri Meri Kahani

Priyanka Chopra is all smiles nowadays – especially when she is facing the camera for Kunal Kohli’s film, Teri Meri Kahani. But it doesn’t have much to do with Shahid Kapoor being her co-star. The fact of the matter is that she is playing a happy character in TMK. Last we heard about Kunal’s film was how the two lead actors were cosying up during an outdoor shoot on the outskirts of London. There was also the buzz that her character – of an actress from the 1960s – is similar to Kareena Kapoor’s despondent one in Madhur Bhandarkar’s Heroine and Vidya Balan’s in Milan Luthria’s The Dirty Picture. Kunal said recently in an interview that his film does not focus on the sadder aspects of tinseltown. One of the rumours doing the rounds is that Priyanka agreed to do the film as she was not chosen for Heroine, but we don’t agree. Piggy Chops has been doing intense films for the past few years – 7 Khoon Maaf, Agneepath, Don 2 and the yet-to-release Barfee. Such emotionally draining work can get to the well-being of the best of actors. The last time she made us laugh (intentionally) was way back in 2008 in Dostana. Teri Meri Kahani is a good break for PC from these dramas, don’t you think? Kunal has said that he wanted her to stay positive and feel good during the shoot to get into the essence of her character, and that’s exactly what she did. And if you are getting a chance to be happy, visit foreign lands, spend time with a ‘very good friend’ and get paid for doing so, would you pass it up?

UK film to be based on ‘KBC 5′ winner Sushil Kumar’s life

The documentary will be based on Sushil Kumar rags-to-riches story

Sushil Kumar, who won Rs. 5 crore on Kaun Banega Croreptai 5 hosted by superstar Amitabh Bachchan, has been offered a documentary film to be produced by 2waytraffic International and Sony Television, London and directed by Chris Tarrant and Keith Strachan. The film will be shot in the UK, and – the best part – it will be based on Kumar’s story of winning the quiz show. Kumar’s is a true rags-to-riches story – he belongs to small town Motihari in Bihar, and went on to win the biggest quiz show in India. His struggle and his moment of glory will all be captured in the documentary which will most likely be shot in the UK. Kumar is understandably excited about being a part of the film and getting a chance to travel overseas, something he would not have imagined before winning the show, with his modest earnings of Rs. 6,000 per month. A first-time winner of Rs. 5 crore in the show’s history, Kumar is right now busy shooting a promotional film for a government scheme, after being made the brand ambassador for the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MGNREGA). We wish him luck with his documentary!

BIGG BOSS 5: Siddharth Bhardwaj has a heart-to-heart with Mahek Chahal

With five days left for the grand finale, it is time for reflection on Day 93 in the Bigg Boss 5 house

The contestants wake up to the song Paisa paisa. When they walk to the garden, they notice a bag full of cash. They realise that any one of them who is sure he or she won’t win the final prize of Rs. 1 crore has the option of taking the bag of cash and walking out. Siddharth Bhardwaj discusses with Mahek Chahal that the amount in the bag will increase every day to tempt the housemates. As the day progresses, Siddharth and Sky get into a small argument over a task. Mahek, Juhi Parmar and Amar Upadhyay join them and start taking sides. As a result of that argument, Mahek and sky start another argument. Sky accuses Mahek of taking revenge for everything he has done to her on the show. Mahek retorts that he should stop accusing her of doing things that she hasn’t done.

The housemates are upset with all the negativity and they start discussing their happiest moments in the house. Sid recalls the moment when Mahek told him he has managed to win her heart. Juhi says it was the moment her husband entered the house to be with her. Sky remembers the time when the entire house was against him, but Pooja Bedi stood up for him and asked him to stay strong.
However, these remembrances don’t dispel the negative atmosphere entirely. As the day ends, Sid and Mahek discuss Amar’s spineless behaviour. Sid tells Mahek that a few days back, Sky had made fun of Amar and his family, but now Amar is bonding very well with him. Sid reveals that he is ashamed he supported Amar all the time. Now that Sky is being a sweet guy, Amar has not only stopped being with the rest of them, but is also complaining about them to Sky.

Vidya Balan refuses to play second fiddle

Despite the good money on offer and the stamp of a commercial film, Vidya has rejected the role in Shootout At Wadala. Reason: The Dirty Picture actor doesn’t want to get lost in a film that’s overcrowded with leading men

Success, just like failure, changes many things. It certainly did change a few things for Vidya Balan. Riding high on the success of The Dirty Picture’s BO success, the 34-year-old is not keen on doing films that give more prominence to the male stars. Vidya was supposed to play underworld don Manya Surve’s girlfriend in Sanjay Gupta’s Shootout at Wadala but now it doesn’t seem like a good idea to the actor anymore. Vidya’s agendas have definitely gone through a sea change after being applauded for her Silk Smitha act by the audience and critics alike. Vidya has now decided that she won’t play a regular Bollywood heroine in a male-centric film. Calling it a natural progression, she says that she wants to essay more challenging and powerful roles than the one offered to her by Sanjay Gupta. Interestingly, Ekta Kapoor, the producer The Dirty Picture, who played a pivotal role in Vidya’s success story, is also the producer of Shootout at Wadala. But we hear that this time Vidya had to say a firm no to the television soap queen. Will this refusal to act in Shootout at Wadala sour Vidya’s friendship with Ekta? It definitely could, considering we know that Ms Kapoor doesn’t take such rejections lying down! And will being so choosy affect Vidya’s soaring career? Well, only time will tell!

Amitabh Bachchan takes on Priyanka Chopra!

The legendary actor is now the most followed Bollywood celeb on the micro blogging site

Looks like Beti B has already brought good luck to Amitabh Bachchan. The veteran actor has become the Bollywood celebrity with the highest number of followers on the microblogging site Twitter. Till a couple of days ago, the crown belonged to Priyanka Chopra. The Fashion actor was the Twitter queen, beating even Shahrukh Khan and Salman Khan, with 18,46,557 followers. However, Amitabh’s regular tweets have garnered him 18,56,913 followers. It seems that more users are interested in Big B’s philosophy than in what Priyanka is doing. Wethink it also has a lot to do with Beti B. You may remember how Amitabh was the first to announce daughter-in-law Aishwarya’s pregnancy, and also the first to tweet that she had delivered a girl. We guess that several others like us believe that he will be the first to tweet the name of Beti B too – after all, he has been asked to choose it – and that’s why there’s been this surge in his followers. We are sure that we are not the only ones hoping he will tweet a photo of Beti B too. Not that his musings aren’t interesting but, hey, Beti B beats philosophy any day, don’t you think?

Pooja Bedi asked to stay away from ‘Bigg Boss 5′ finale

Ex-Bigg Boss housemate Pooja Bedi says she has been asked to refrain from attending the grand finale of Colors’ reality show Bigg Boss 5

“Have been informed by the channel that I’m not to attend the finale, despite it being mandatory in my contract! Wonder why! Any guesses?” Pooja posted on micro-blogging site Twitter.“Have asked the channel to state the reason I cannot be there at the  finale to cheer my friends on! Also, till yesterday I was to do a medley! What changed?” she added.  The actor, daughter of veteran actor Kabir Bedi and Odissi exponent Protima Gauri Bedi, caught limelight for endorsing Kama Sutra in the 1990s, and she went on to be popular for her Marilyn Monroe skirt act in Jo Jeeta Wohi Sikander.  Pooja entered the Bigg Boss 5 house on October 2, 2011, and was evicted towards the end of November.  Recently, the 41-year-old was in the spotlight for her comments against Bigg Boss 5 host Salman Khan, as she thought he hurt her fellow inmate and friend, Akashdeep Saigal aka Sky. It is believed that perhaps her comments didn’t go down too well with Salman. However, in a host of replies to tweets from her fans, Pooja posted, “Never said anything derogatory about the channel or production house! And its my prerogative to react to contestants or the host of my show. If anchors can be unfair or awful to contestants, contestants have a right to speak up in their or their friends defense! I have requested an official explanation from the channel, but they haven’t given me one yet! Let them decide how to say it. Channel and production never had issues with any of statements I’ve made! If they had, they’d have intimated me immediately.” According to a tabloid, even Bollywood star Hrithik Roshan’s plans of promoting Karan Johar’s forthcoming film Agneepath, on the show have been scrapped.  It is believed Hrithik and Salman share a cold war ever since the former reacted to Salman’s comments against Guzaarish director Sanjay Leela Bhansali. So now, Imran Khan will perhaps attend the finale to promote Ek Main Aur Ekk Tu, also produced by Johar. Post the news, Pooja wrote: “Mumbai Mirror article today! Hrithik not allowed in #BB5 finale! Guess I’m not the only victim! Wow!”  The finale of the reality show is to be held on Saturday. The final contestants remaining in the show are Juhi Parmar, Amar Upadhyay, Mahek Chahal, Siddharth Bharadwaj and Sky.

Salman Khan not part of Celebrity Cricket League?

The Dabangg actor’s face is plastered all over the Celebrity Cricket League posters but he will not be taking part in the league this year

“Salman Khan would not be able to play. His filming schedule and surgery last year have restricted him from playing but he may play in the next season of CCL. He is the icon player and ambassador of our team,” said Sohail.Sohail Khan is upbeat about the second season of Celebrity Cricket League and says it is a platform which helps reunite the entire Indian film industry.  “It’s all about sharing the space together. As we said, there is no barrier and all film industries can be a part of this competitive sport. It is great to see them unite and play cricket in a sporting spirit,” said Sohail, who owns the Bollywood team Mumbai Heroes.
The 20-20 cricket tournament has teams not only from Hindi cinema, but also Telugu, Kannada and Tamil cinema. While actor Vishnu Manchu owns Telugu Warriors, L Ganga Prasad of GVR Infra Projects is the owner of Chennai Rhinos, and Ashok Kheny of AKK Entertainment Pvt. Ltd. has Karnataka Bulldozers.  “It is great fun and we have a good laugh in the after parties regarding the experiences of the game. We are not cricketers. We are just actors training to play good cricket. Getting everyone together is good fun,” he added.
Sohail’s team boasts of actors and filmmakers like Suniel Shetty, Riteish Deshmukh, Aftab Shivdasani, Sohail himself, Sonu Sood, Apoorv Lakhia, Shabbir Ahluwalia, Sunny Singh, Varun Badola, Kabir Sadanand, Raja Bherwani, Angad Bedi, Tushaar Jalota, Sharad Kelkar, Varun Rao, Sachin Joshi, Ashish Chaudhary and Vatsal Seth. After an exciting first season, the second season brings in two new teams Bengal Tigers, owned by filmmaker Boney Kapoor and his actress wife Sridevi, and Kerala Strikers of the Malayalam film industry owned by National Award winning actor Mohanlal. And Sohail says that more teams are likely to join in.  “The league is also growing in size. Last year we had four teams, this year we’ve got six teams and next year we are going to have eight teams and then we are going to end with ten teams. We are going to introduce the Marathi and Punjabi team next year,” said Sohail.  “Then there will be a Bhojpuri and a Gujarati team. We plan to cover all the film industries of India and it is a great platform for bringing together directors and producers,” he added.  The Celebrity Cricket League matches will begin Jauary 13 in Sharjah.

Salman, Shahrukh, Aamir Khan: Who will 2012 belong to?

As a brand new year dawns, it’s time to put 2011 behind us and look forward to what 2012 has in store. Here are some hopes for Bollywood’s top stars, including the four Khans

Shahrukh Khan – 2011 proved with RA.One and Don 2 that the Badshah’s India base is slowly eroding while his overseas market remains robust. Yes, both of those films made some money, but they were surrounded by carping detractors and naysayers simply because the final released products did not match the King’s high and exacting standards. Here’s hoping that his leading role in Yash Chopra’s comeback film brings back the old magic. Cineswami knows that SRK is making a conscious effort to break new ground with each film, but sometimes all the fans want is old wine in a new bottle.
Salman Khan – The man had a humongous 2011 with Ready and Bodyguard, but unlike SRK, in Salman’s case it’s too much of old wine in an old bottle. Sure, the fans are lapping it up, but he owes it to them to try something new. Thankfully, he has the hatke Kabir Khan’s Ek Tha Tiger for YRF due in 2012 that also reunites him with old flame Katrina. There’s also Dabangg 2 due, but without Abhinav Kashyap’s scripting and directing acumen it’s going to be nowhere near the first one’s smartness, wit and humour.
Aamir Khan – What can we say? The perfectionist continues to astound us. It was a low key 2011 for India’s surest box office draw, but he made his mark in wife Kiran Rao’s Dhobi Ghat and shepherded Delhi Belly to being one of the standout hits of the year. His police procedural Talaash is keenly awaited. No other star would even touch a risky subject like a thriller without songs, but Aamir can and will make it work. And Reema Kagti is no slouch as a director as Honeymoon Travels proved.
Saif Ali Khan – Like Aamir, Saif too had a subdued 2011 with just a trifling appearance in the trifling film that was Aarakshan. But 2012 will see him in James Bond mode with the long delayed and keenly anticipated Agent Vinod, besides the Race sequel. With some luck Homi Adajania’s Cocktail that reunites the Chhote Nawab with Deepika Padukone should also be released in 2012.
Abhishek Bachchan – Simply put, the man needs a hit. Badly. Dum Maaro Dum and Game didn’t do anything for him in 2011. Players isn’t carrying much buzz, already being equated with Game. If it works, then it’ll be a shot in the arm for both Abhishek and Neil Nitin Mukesh. There’s hitmaker Rohit Shetty’s remake of the original GolmaalBol Bachchan – where Aby’s baby will have the added crutch of Ajay Devgn’s presence.
Ajay Devgn – He’ll want to forget Rascals in a hurry, as will Sanjay Dutt. However, he’ll carry fond memories of Singham. Priyadarshan’s Tezz is due in 2012, but let’s not hold our breath for that.
Hrithik Roshan – He tasted success with Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara in 2011 but he’ll be hoping for a solid solo hit with the Agneepath remake that rests solely on his sinewy shoulders, Sanjay Dutt’s Kancha Cheena notwithstanding. It’s unlikely that the Krrish sequel will be released in 2012, but we live in hope.
Akshay Kumar – The poor man has seen a steady drop in his popularity thanks to his poor choice of films like Patiala House and Thank You in 2011. While there always will be a market for his brand of brain-dead, infantile humour, he can’t carry it off with the pizzazz of say, Salman. 2012 will be a make or break year for him with crores riding on Joker, Housefull 2 and Rowdy Rathore that all cater to his core lowbrow market. But the film that should be his salvation in 2012 is Once Upon a Time Again.
Of the rest, Emraan Hashmi will continue ploughing his lonely yet successful Bhatt furrow, Ranbir Kapoor and Imran Khan no doubt regale the youth segment and the audience will give the cold shoulder to John Abraham. As for the rest, do we really care?

Sikandar Kher: I am not ashamed to ask for work

Despite back-to-back failures, the Players actor hasn’t given up on his dreams to be a successful part of tinselville. In a candid conversation Sikandar Kher says he won’t quit till he makes it big in B-town

Sikandar Kher belongs to a family (Kirron and Anupam Kher) hailed for acting excellence. Yet, the four-films-old actor is still to crack the success formula in Bollywood. Perhaps that’s why he is moving to the big bad world of masala entertainment after starting out with newbie filmmakers (Summer 2007, Woodstock Villa).
After Ashutosh Gowariker’s patriotic bio-pic Khele Hum Jee Jaan Say, he will be seen in Abbas-Mustan’s slick thriller, Players. Ask Sikandar if he is conscious of the banner or production house he chooses to work with and the 30-something actor says, “Yes, it does count. Obviously it makes a difference, because they are the ones who are going to pump in the money, and publicity is very important for the film and the way it comes across. This way I know that my ass is covered. Otherwise you put in all the hard work and if nobody is gonna watch it, what’s the use?” It’s obvious he’s talking from experience; his first film (Summer 2007) got positive reviews but not enough people watched it since it wasn’t well publicised.
However, it wasn’t just the commercial nature of the script or the bigwigs attached to Players that made him accept the part of a Pakistani character, Bilal. “I have always wanted to work with Abbas bhai and Mastan bhai. I have met them many times in the past. So when they called me, I just jumped with joy,” says Sikandar . “Baazigar is an all-time Abbas Mastan favourite, but every film of theirs – Khiladi, Aitraaz – is so interesting and keeps you engrossed. Players is true to the duo’s style of cinema.”
And that meant a lot of action – driving fast cars, jumping between trains and operating a crane. “We drove Mini Coopers on the runway in Wellington airport. They shut down the airport for us! Then I got a chance to operate a crane on a train,” smiles the actor. Off screen too, it was a rewarding experience. “I have worked with Abhishek earlier, but it was very weird with Sonam. I have known her since we were kids because our fathers are really close friends. We used to hang out at each other’s house for dinners and have conversations, and now suddenly we are working together. It’s weird, but in a nice way. But I also met people I didn’t know – Bipasha Basu and Omi Vaidya. Now we hang out a lot together and they are among my closest friends today.”
The young Kher doesn’t want to restrict himself to the fun and frolic kind of cinema, “It isn’t always about a commercial or non-commercial subject, honestly,” insists Sikander and quickly adds, “I am always going to be drawn to very intense stuff. It’s so much more fun to play a layered character. It is a selfish thing, because I can do so much more. So maybe I will do intense roles with happy endings.”
Sadly, Sikandar’s ride so far in B-town hasn’t been smooth sailing; all his films (Summer 2007, Woodstock Villa and Khele Hum Jee Jaan Sey) fared badly at the box-office. “It’s tough, yaar. You do go through depression. You question yourself whether you are good enough. Fortunately, a lot of people have said that they liked my work, so that keeps me going. That doesn’t make you feel like you are useless,” he smiles.
Luckily, unlike so many other strugglers, he doesn’t have to bother about making ends meet at home. But “My failure has got a lot more comfort, but that doesn’t stop me from wanting it as bad as the other person who doesn’t have it. A lot of people say it must have been much easier for me, but then how has it been easier for me? I am still at it. I am still struggling and I am going to be at it. Most importantly, you want the audience to love you. So you are always in search of that character, the film, the role, wherever it’s possible.”
What if it means going up to a filmmaker and asking for work? Pat comes the reply, “I am ready to approach anybody and everybody constantly for work. My father has done it all his life and he is the one who told me that there is nothing to be ashamed of doing it. Why should I sit at home and wait for work to be thrown at me? I am not in a position where directors are lining up outside my house. I have no problem in spreading my arms and saying that I want work.”

Vidya Balan: I feel like a mommy!

This is what the actor said when she was asked about her plans of getting married and having kids

Not in a hurry to get hitched to beau Siddharth Roy Kapur, Ms Balan is crystal clear about her plans when it comes to tying the knot and settling down. May be it is because she already feels like a happy mother, even though the stork is far from visiting her. Before you set your thoughts racing, we would like to clarify that she was talking about her elder sister’s twins Ruhaan and Ira, who keep her hooked and make her feel like a mother already. In a recent television interview, the sexy Silk also said that she’s in love with her sister’s kids and ‘coz she’s playing the role of a half-mommy, as of now she doesn’t feel the need to get married. The Dirty Picture actor wants to take a good couple of years to make up her mind about it. Now that we know that Ms Balan is experiencing vicarious thrills of mommyhood, we wouldn’t like to spoil her fun by pestering her with the same old clichéd wedding questions. Well, we promise to leave this half-mommy alone just for a little while!

Esha Deol ready to make relationship official?

It seems the Tell Me O Kkhuda actor is ready to get engaged to her businessman boyfriend

It’s old news that Esha Deol has been dating a businessman, Bharat Takhtani, for close to a year. The latest goss that brings the news back in limelight is that the couple is ready to make their relationship official. By the way, for the uninitiated, last year Esha was spotted hanging out together at a lot of places with Bharat. However, she had denied any romantic liaisons with the man in question. She maintained the commonly-used ‘just good friends’ stand. Esha isn’t telling us yet. Maybe her friend and Cash co-star Riteish Deshmukh – who for years denied his romantic relationship with Genelia D’Souza – is guiding Esha on how to keep matters of the heart private. Anyway, our gossipmongers insist that Dharmendra and Hema Malini are making a guest list for their darling daughter’s engagement ceremony. We are sure it will have the who’s who of the industry considering her family’s close relationships with most industrywallahs. And wethinks mommy dearest must be the happiest with the latest development. ‘Coz often in her interviews, the gorgeous mom said that apart from wanting Esha to bounce back to films, she wants her to find a good man and settle down in matrimony like most girls her age. So never mind that TMOK didn’t work out, the Deols now have a bigger and better reason to celebrate!

BIGG BOSS 5: Amar, Sky and Siddharth wrestle with Yamamotoyama

The sumo wrestler brings a lot of fun to the Bigg Boss 5 house on Days 90 and 91

As Sunny Leone leaves the house, the final five contestants are happy that they have entered the finals. Bigg Boss gets the men to wrestle the new entrant Yamamotoyama, but all of them get very scared. Siddharth Bhardwaj is given the responsibility of taking care of the wrestler. The two become friends quickly. That evening, Yama sings a Japanese song and soon all the others join him in singing it. They teach him to sing Aati kya Khandala and Salman Khan’s step from Dabangg.

The next day, all the housemates wake up to the classic song Sayonara, which makes Yama very happy. He jumps into the swimming pool and the water splashes out. Amar Upadhyay and Sky make fun of that and claim that it was like a mini tsunami. That afternoon, Yama’s lunch arrives from outside in steel buckets. The entire house is shocked at the amount of food. Later, Yama discusses his love life with the housemates. Sid teases Yama with a red balloon and the two have a lot of fun. That night, Yama’s dinner arrives from outside but Bigg Boss gets the contestants to serve him the food the Indian way. Yama enjoys the special treatment but sweetly asks the others to enjoy their dinner too.
Before they go to bed, Sky and Juhi Parmar taunt Amar on how he is always happy when another contestant has to exit the show.
