Can Ali Zafar and David Dhawan do justice to ‘Chashme Buddoor’ remake?

Director David Dhawan is glad that his plans of remaking this yesteryear blockbuster is taking some shape, with Ali Zafar giving the final nod

We have seen Ali give a rocking performance in Mere Brother Ki Dulhan. In fact, if the actor controls his hamming a little, no one can stop him from going places in B-town. But what’s gnawing away at the back of our minds is, if Mr Dhawan can do justice to the remake. We agree, he used to be the king of slapstick comedy at one point of time, with actor Govinda strutting by his side and supporting every endeavour of his. But somehow we feel that the director who gave ‘cheesy’ a new definition has lost his magic. Don’t blame us if we are implacably opposed to the idea of him remaking Chashme Buddoor, one of the sweetest movies from the eighties that enchanted us with some amazing scenes and funny dialogues (remember Chamko washing powder?). We think you would probably do the same after watching Rascals. Vulgarity and skin show have become Dhawan’s strategy to sell his movies and if he does the same with this classic, we will surely cringe to death. The movie apparently will go through some modifications in the script, and will be given a more contemporary feel by adding more characters and fun moments. Now we’ll just wait and watch what treatment the Rascals director gives to the remake. We hope it’s a good one or else we will very soon need treatment for overdosing on ‘bad cinema’.
