Salman Khan back as Prem: move over Chulbul Pandey!

Salman Khan has signed a romantic film with his one-time fave director Sooraj Barjatya – their fourth one together

There’s only that much a dead blackbuck and an orthodox father can do to stop two people from being best friends forever. We are talking about actor Salman Khan and director Sooraj Barjatya. The two had promised to be buddies all their lives were forced by circumstances to put distance between them. But it seems that staying away has only made them grow more fond of each other, so much so that now Salman and Sooraj have signed their fourth film together. They have been thick since the latter launched the actor’s solo-hero career in Maine Pyar Kiya and later gave him one of the biggest hits in Indian cinema, Hum Aapke Hain Koun…!. Things soured between them when Salman was arrested for allegedly killing the endangered blackbuck during the shoot of Sooraj’s Hum Saath Saath Hain. The Barjatyas as a community have always supported the endangered animal and to have their friend kill one of them was unacceptable, especially to Sooraj’s father Rajkumar Barjatya. He had reportedly banned the actor from his productions. But none of the films they made after HSSH really hit the mark at the box office – whether it was Main Prem Ki Diwani Hoon or Vivah or Ek Vivaah… Aisa Bhi. Over the years the frost between Sooraj and Salman eagerly thawed and the actor did a guest appearance in Sooraj’s niece’s debut flick last year. Now the two friends have signed a romantic film together, to be directed by Sooraj, of course. It will be see Salman slipping into the iconic Prem’s shoes again. Chulbul Pandey and Lovely Singh, make way. It’s time for Prem to take centrestage again
