Shahrukh Khan gets cartooned again in Don comic

The superstar and his Don 2 team recently released a graphic novel related to the thriller at an event in New Delhi. Let’s hope it isn’t a below par production like RA.One

Apart from promoting films through music and events, merchandise products specifically incorporating movies into comics are the next big thing. We saw this trend start in Bollywood when Saif Ali Khan and Rani Mukerji’s Hum Tum released. SRK used graphic novels to promote RA.One and recently along with Priyanka Chopra, Farhan Akhtar and Ritesh Sidhwani, he released the comic book titled ‘Don: The Origin’. According to the publishers, “The slim volume begins with Don in present day Sicily, Italy. Where Don’s mentor tries to kill him but he survives and guns down his mentor instead. This sets off Don’s journey in the big bad world of gangland.” While this trend is still at its initiation stages in B-town, most classics and current biggies in Hollywood (Stars Wars, Indiana Jones, Mission Impossible, Iron Man, Transformers, etc) have inspired a series of graphic novels and become a well-established fad out there. In fact, when the release of a film-related comic is announced fans queue for long hours outside the stores to grab their personal copies. It’s too early to tell if such a craze will catch on with the Indian public, but you never know. However, when RA.One comics were released, it backfired completely mainly because the graphic novel right from paper to graphic representation was far from international standards. We are yet to get a copy of Don: The origin and we hope to get better quality stuff. Maybe these are just teething problems and it will only get better with each comic. For the final verdict we shall wait to get our hands on the comic.
