Delhi Belly girl Poorna Jagannathan will now be seen in a Hollywood comedy drama, Thanks For Sharing. The movie has an ensemble cast of Hollywood biggies such as Tim Robbins, Gwyneth Paltrow, Mark Ruffalo, Josh Gad and Joely Richardson. Poorna Jagannathan says, “This movie’s a great black comedy: it’s right up my alley. I thought The Kids Are All Right was one of those rare films that you can never forget and I feel so lucky to work with Stuart and be part of such a talented cast.” The story of Thanks For Sharing revolves around a support group for sex addicts, who try and beat their addictions and form meaningful relationships for the first time. The film is actually based on a 12-step programme for recovering sex addicts in New York City. It marks the directorial debut of Stuart Blumberg who was nominated for an Oscar for co-writing The Kids Are All Right. The film has just gone on the floors in New York City and hits theatres next year. Apart from doing a cameo in Hema Malini’s Tell Me O Kkhuda, Salman has decided to back good friend Himesh Reshammiya’s Damadamm! too.Sallu, who is currently shooting for Ek Tha Tiger in Istanbul, will be back in the city on October 21. As soon as he arrives, he will watch Himesh’s film in a specially organised trial. It’s a known fact that Salman had given Himesh his first break, but the duo had fallen out soon after. Though Sid doesn’t reveal to the housemates why he had been called into the confession room, a nervous Mahek Chahel gives a hint to him about who should be nominated for the captain’s position. Later, Siddharth is called back into the confession room to enumerate his final selection. Bigg Boss then reveals the names to the other contestants in the house and permits them to campaign and lobby for votes so that they are elected for the position.

Shahid Kapoor seems to be a very busy man these days. The actor has walked out of his Kaminey director Vishal Bhardwaj’s Matru Ki Bijlee Ka Mandola citing date problems. While a little while ago Ajay Devgn opted out of the film in favour of Ashwini Dheer’s Son Of Sardar, Shahid has declined the film as he is going to be busy with Kunal Kohli’s Muqtassar and later Siddharth Anand’s remake of Knight and Day. Well, what we hear though is that apart from the dates, its rustic feel and niche subject of the film is putting off the two stars. The real reason for Ajay’s walk out is said to be his unwillingness to do serious cinema right now. After the success of Singham, Ajay is in no mood to get into a non-commercial project. Shahid, just like Devgn, is also not keen on doing multiplex cinema right now. After the box office failure of Mausam, he is looking for the big blockbuster hit that has been eluding him for a long time now. So the actor, who is off on a holiday right now, is slated to resume work next month and will get busy with the two new films. We hear that Vishal has taken this in his stride and has started his hunt for a new hero to fill Ajay and/or Shahid’s shoes, acting opposite Anushka Sharma – but will she stay with the movie? Despite Shahid’s refusal to do this film, Vishal hasn’t given up on the idea of making Kaminey 2. Injuries and Hrithik Roshan seem to go hand in hand. Remember how he fell from a shocking height when the support cables snapped during a shoot for Papa Rakesh Roshan’s Krrish? And his knee injury sustained while shooting battle sequences for Ashutosh Gowariker’s magnum opus Jodhaa Akbar? The hard working actor injured himself again recently on the sets of Karan Johar’s remake of Agneepath. And now, the superhero has hurt his back! Hrithik is portraying the larger-than-life character of Vijay Dinanath Chauhan, played by Amitabh Bachchan in the original film. So intense Hrithik did get in his performance that he attempted to pull off a stunt for which he refused to use a body-double, all just to make the scene look more authentic. The 36-year-old was supposed to lift a massive wrestler weighing more than 110 kg, and managed to do it without help from wires or stuntmen. Hrithik, who had already gone into overdrive juggling his reality TV show Just Dance with KJo’s Agneepath, was slowly losing his super-fit condition. The workload had started taking a heavy toll on his health. And now this injury, we fear, could act as a new setback. All this when Hrithik was reportedly gearing up for Krrish 2; a special crew was to fly in from the US to do a body screening for the actor for this mega-project. The film will demand a lot more action and put more strain on the already wounded star. Which means that it’s absolutely important for Hrithik to recover fully and regain his fitness before he starts the film, so that future injury can be avoided. Can Hrithik manage to get back into the saddle and ride Krish 2 to success? Only time will tell. Santosh Sivan’s magnum opus Urumi starring Malayalam heartthrob Prithviraj, Pradhu Deva, Vidya Balan, Genelia D’Souza and Arya will open the Indian Panorama section of this year’s International Film Festival of India in Goa. The jury headed by Sai Paranjpye has chosen 23 films out of a total of 118 eligible entries.Bollywood is represented with Parvin Dabas’ Sahi Dhande Galat Bande, Tigmanshu Dhulia’s Shagird and Zoya Akhtar’s Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara. Sanjoy Nag’s gay-themed Memories in March in English, Hindi and Bengali, starring Deepti Naval and cross-dressing director turned diva Rituparno Ghosh, has also been chosen. India’s Oscar contender and National Award-winner – Salim Ahamed’s Adaminte Makan Abu – is part of a strong Malayalam selection that besides Urumi, includes Babu Janardhanan Prasanthi’s Bombay March 12, Sameer Thahir’s Chappa Kurishu, VK Prakash’s Karmayogi, Madhav Ramdasan’s Melvilasom and, of course, Rajesh Pillai’s Traffic that is due a Salman Khan Bollywood remake soon.
Marathi is well represented with Rajesh Pinjani’s Baboo Band Baaja, Ravi Jadhav’s Balgandharva and Kiran Yadnyopavit’s Taryanche Bait. The Bengali brigade will be present in the form of Kaushik Ganguly’s Laptop, Anjan Dutt’s Ranjana Ami Ar Ashbona and the late Nabyendu Chatterjee’s Sanskar. The audiences in Goa will no doubt use these air-conditioned screenings to catch up on their beauty sleep after nights of hedonistic partying.
You’d have thought that Amitabh Bachchan has more doctorates (honorary, of course) than a whole conference of scholars and medicos combined and therefore he wouldn’t need one more. But the Bachchan has decided to accept one from the Queensland University of Technology, two years after he declined it in the wake of Indian students suffering racial abuse in Australia. Must help pass the time between takes as he’s currently Down Under shooting for Baz Luhrmann’s The Great Gatsby.
QUT Vice Chancellor Peter Coaldrake said: “Mr Bachchan is a hugely popular and influential figure in India. His agreement to now proceed with the award is significant in that it can be seen as a measure of improved perceptions in India, not only of Australia itself but also of improvements in the safety of Indian students here, and Australia’s welcoming approach to international students.” Come to think of it, Bachchan has only three other doctorates, from UK’s De Montfort University, Bundelkhand University Jhansi and University of Delhi. Not enough, surely.
Meanwhile, the Mumbai Film Festival continues at Cinemax Versova, largely attended by C-grade filmi or wannabe filmi people. Bollywood flop directors Rohan Sippy and Nikhil Advani are also hanging out there. Most non-filmi Mumbaikars aren’t even aware that a film festival is going on in the city. Great job of promotion by sponsors Reliance Entertainment then.

As Ajay Singh Deol, better known as Sunny paaji, one of B-town’s hottest action figures turns a year older today, we wonder how the actor still manages to be as fit as a fiddle. His ‘dhaai kilo ka haath’ (hand that weighs two and a half kg) has probably gained more weight, and that’s warning enough for anyone who is even remotely planning to mess with Mr Deol. He made his debut in Betaab and stole our hearts, even more so in his action film Arjun. What stays imprinted in our minds is the way the actor grooves – he has brought about a grin on our faces with his clumsy renditions. His ‘taarikh pe taarikh’ dialogue from Damini continues to mesmerise us. Right from playing a spy to a boxer, the Ghayal hero takes us back to the memory lane down the eighties, when just one Sunny Deol was enough to hook us on to his spicy action movies. The best part he didn’t need special effects and harnesses to create the magic on screen. He showed us his muscle power in the blockbuster Gadar – Ek Prem Katha.
