Show us your sunny side, Vidya Balan!

We think that just for a change the gutsy actor should leave aside her courageous, path-breaking avatars and indulge in fun, frolic and fluff onscreen

After the outstanding response and overwhelming box office collections of The Dirty Picture, everyone agreed that Vidya Balan is the only female actor in B-town to have the gumption and power to shoulder a film solely on her well-rounded shoulders. And it becomes more apparent with every film (Ishqiya, Paa and No One Killed Jessica, for instance) that she prefers matter over money. Perhaps that’s why Vidya turned down the offer to reunite with John Abraham, with whom she created sizzling chemistry in Salaam E Ishq. According to a tabloid report, she opted out of Sanay Gupta’s Shootout At Wadala because she would prefer not to do small roles or play second fiddle. While we admire Ms Balan’s guts to do what most actors run away from, how about she does what most leading ladies do best – like strut around in designer labels, laugh at inane jokes, indulge in tomfoolery and sing and dance like the regular lot of glam divas? She did try that with Kismat Konnection, got brickbats from every side, but that wethinks was because of her fashion statement and not her acting. And she could bring out her sunny side, the one that has been missing in those gritty serious roles off her last few films. Wouldn’t that be a sort of challenge for Vidya, who loves to push the envelope? And this is one envelope we’d like to know if she can push better than anyone else!
