It was a dark Friday when the renowned Spanish film maker Jose Luis Borau breathed his last in Madrid. He was 83 years old at the time of his death. His death is seen as a great loss to the Spanish movie industry. The official announcement of the death was made by the Spanish Academy of Cinematographic Arts and Sciences.
Borau was suffering from throat cancer and finally he succumbed to it.
Borau was born in Zaragoza in the year 1929. He has not made many films, yet he is known for the quality of his films. His first directorial venture was for the film "En el Rio" which was loved by the critics and the masses. In the year 2000 he was bestowed the Goya award for the best director. This was incidentally the last film he made. It was titled "Leo".
Besides direction, Borau also proved his mantle in screen writing. He also tried his luck as a producer. He has also been seen in front of the camera and has dabbled with acting in a couple of his films.
He was an ace director who shot to fame with the release of his film "Furtivos" in the year 1975. The film was an instant success and the maker's efforts were very prominently visible.
He was indeed a wonderful film maker and his loss is deeply regretted.
