It looks as if 2013 is bringing about quite a few changes in the life of Britney Spears. After a report began circulating that the pop star would not be asked to return to The X Factor in the fall, Britney, 31, officially announced that she was leaving the show to focus on her music on Jan. 11. On the very same day, she also announced that she and fiancé Jason Trawick have called off their engagement!
In a statement released to HollywoodLife.com by her rep, Britney says, “Jason and I have decided to call off our engagement. I’ll always adore him and we will remain great friends.” Jason, 41, added, “As this chapter ends for us a new one begins. I love and cherish her and her boys and we will be close forever.”
Britney’s rep, Jeff Raymond, tells us, “Britney Spears and Jason Trawick have mutually agreed to end their one-year engagement. As two mature adults, they came to the difficult decision to go their separate ways while continuing to remain friends.”
Why Did Jason Trawick & Britney Spears Break Up?
A source close to the couple tells HollywoodLife.com that the relationship was running on fumes for quite some time now. The relationship was “done right when the deal for her to do The X Factor happened,” our insider says. “They had to keep it secret for the duration of the show and the holidays for the kids. They knew people would start questioning things when they weren’t seen together during Valentine’s Day, so doing the announcement today was perfect with everyone worrying about the [Golden] Globes. He was more of a manager then a lover, so with no sexual chemistry, it was down hill from there.”
Britney & Jason’s Relationship History
Jason and Britney were engaged in 2011. Before the two began dating in 2009, he was her agent. Eventually, he was made her co-conservator, along with her dad, Jamie Spears. TMZ’s sources tell them that Jason didn’t want to announce the end of the relationship until he was removed from the conservatorship. The website reports that lawyers for the conservatorship, along with Jamie, were in court on Jan. 11, so the process of removing Jason very well may have begun.
Britney’s Other Big Announcement
This news comes on the heels of Britney’s official statement announcing her decision to not return to The X Factor. “I’ve made the very difficult decision not to return for another season. I had an incredible time doing the show and I love the other judges and I am so proud of my teens but it’s time for me to get back in the studio,” she said.”
“Watching them all do their thing up on that stage every week made me miss performing so much! I can’t wait to get back out there and do what I love most.”
