When photographs surfaced of Justin Bieber in a Newport Beach, CA hotel room smoking a suspicious-looking cigarette, taken on Jan. 2, there was quite a bit of controversy, naturally. With allegations that Justin’s good friend Lil’ Twist, along with his brother, was rolling the cigarettes and passing them out, the rapper has been blamed for his pop star buddy’s involvement! Fair or not, Justin has risen to his pal’s defense!
Shortly after the scandal broke, Justin, 18, tweeted at his buddy, “Member u were in the baby video @liltwist. we’ve been good friends for A LONG time.” According to Page Six, Justin’s issue isn’t Lil’ Twist, 19. Rather, he’s upset with the so-called friend who sold the photos for quite a pretty penny. “Justin feels betrayed by someone who sold these pictures for $25,000 who he thought was a friend,” a source says.

Page Six also reports that the controversial photos aren’t the first time Justin’s been associated with rumors of marijuana use. According to a source, guests at the Carlyle Hotel in NYC’s Upper East Side complained of “a strong smell” coming from rooms on the ninth floor believed to have been booked for Justin and his crew when the Biebs was in New York for the Victoria’s Secret fashion show in November of 2012.
A source close to Justin, however, claims that the odor was found to be coming from another rock star’s room. “It was a complete mix-up. Justin wasn’t even on the floor in question, it was actually coming from another star’s room. It has been a running joke on his team ever since.”
Regardless of the public pressure put on his relationship with Lil’ Twist since the photos were released, it’s clear that Justin has no plans to cut ties. As recently at Jan. 8, Lil’ Twist shared a photo on Instagram of Justin and himself goofing off in a weight room.
