Why is Sonam Kapoor grateful to Vidya Balan?

It’s all got to do with The Dirty Picture and No One Killed Jessica

You may think Bollywood heroines are bitchy, catty and jealous beings who can’t stand it if someone else has a hit film. We hear many actors from today’s crop are just like that. But sometimes, an actor performs so well that the only emotion she inspires is awe. Vidya Balan has done it not once, but twice this year. Her performances in No One Killed Jessica and The Dirty Picture actually had audiences flocking to see women-oriented films, something that has awakened hope in Sonam Kapoor. The Players actor said, “We used to have such good female-centric films like Bandini and Guide in the ’60s and ’70s. The ’80s ruined everything. We have regressed since then. But now, female-oriented films like No One Killed Jessica, 7 Khoon Maaf and The Dirty Picture are doing well. Vidya Balan has done a very good job in and The Dirty Picture. Now we (heroines) can put our foot down and say that this proves it’s not about heroes anymore.” Well said, Sonam, but you know what they say about action speaking louder than words? If you actually played a strong character, then we’ll be impressed.
